A 71-year-old great-grandfather was shot dead as he drove for Lyft on his 52nd wedding anniversary Sunday and now Arizona police are on the hunt for his murderer.
Harold A. Treadwell III veered off Baseline Road when he was gunned down near 32nd and Thunderbird St. in Phoenix around 12:30am.
It’s unclear how many blocks the car kept going for after he was fatally injured in the torso then crossed a median and crashed.
Investigators are ‘pretty confident’ the shot came from outside the vehicle but there is no indication he was targeted. Treadwell later died in hospital.

Treadwell – who went by Harry or Tready – had earlier spoken to his wife.
Frances Treadwell wrote in a Facebook post: ‘Today is our 52nd wedding anniversary and we spoke right before he was killed and wished each other a HAPPY ANNIVERSARY (thank you God for allowing me to have that last conversation with him so I could tell him that I loved him!)’
Treadwell’s wife said she was with her son when a detective knocked on her door at around 4.30am to tell her the news.
His son described Treadwell – who is from Indiana and moved to Arizona in 2003 – as a man who liked to spend time with his family, pan for gold and play tennis and golf.
‘We are leaning on each other as we try to accept this horrible event and will continue to live together,’ Frances wrote in the social media post that has been shared on a GoFundMe page titled ‘help Fran with expenses’.
The widow added: ‘I feel like I am living a horrible, horrible nightmare and that any moment I will wake up!’

Treadwell did not have insurance and a GoFundMe was set up to raise $10,000 to help Frances
By Tuesday afternoon the crowdfunding page had raised $1,865 of a $10,000 goal.
Treadwell did not have insurance.
It’s not explained what expenses the funds will cover but a friend who set up the page on her behalf states: ‘She has no life insurance, she will lose Tready’s SSI, and will be forced to move. I know we can all help her make this horrible journey a bit easier by not having to worry about money.’
The page shares Treadwell ‘is being cremated and there are no plans for a Memorial Service at this time’.
A man interviewed by ABC15 said Treadwell was ‘trying to make a few extra dollars’ and described the circumstances that led to his death as a ‘few stray bullets’.
Cops had no information on the events leading up to the shooting and haven’t necessarily deemed the incident random.
‘We don’t know much more than he suffered a gunshot wound and died,’ Phoenix police Sgt. Maggie Cox said.
The firing came from an ‘unknown source’.
Lyft told DailyMail.com: ‘We are deeply saddened and shocked by this loss. Our sympathies go out to the loved ones of Harold Treadwell and all those impacted’
In the online post, the Lyft driver’s widow asks for ‘prayers for the strength to continue on with our lives’.
Frances wrote: ‘I pray that he did NOT suffer with any pain. I know that he is with God and his parents now in heaven. He was such a good, kind, giving and loving man!!!
‘I won’t lie – it is going to be extremely tough to live on without him! He was my best friend, soulmate and lover! May you rest in peace my sweet hubby and cowboy (that is my nickname for him!) I miss you so much already!’
Lyft told DailyMail.com they have reached out to Treadwell’s family to offer support.
‘We are deeply saddened and shocked by this loss,’ a Lyft rep told DailyMail.com in a statement. ‘Our sympathies go out to the loved ones of Harold Treadwell and all those impacted by this tragedy. We are actively assisting law enforcement and will continue helping in any way we can.’
Sgt. Cox added: ‘We are really depending on anybody that we have not already talked to call us.’
