Liberty Media chairman John Malone has retired from the Liberty Latin America (LLA) board of directors and will continue to serve the company as a director emeritus. He will attend board meetings and provide active support and advice to LLA, but will no longer have a vote, said the spun-off unit of Liberty Global focused on Latin America and the Caribbean. In a statement, Malone said LLA “has made great progress over the last two years as an independent company and is well-positioned for future success and growth.”
He will be replaced on the LLA board by his nephew and current Discovery and Lionsgate director Daniel Sanchez. The move comes after Malone announced his retirement from the board of US cable operator Charter Communications last year.
