Rep. Pete Stauber will travel to Israel along with Republican leader Kevin McCarthy and other partisan lawmakers to learn more about the U.S.-Israel relationship and security issues facing the region, the congressman’s office said Thursday.

“Israel is our strongest ally in the Middle East, so I look forward to joining my Republican colleagues on this educational trip and learning more about the security threats facing Israel and the entire region,” Stauber said. “I have always been a supporter of Israel and I have no doubt that seeing this region firsthand will only strengthen my support.”

During the trip, Stauber, R-Hermantown, will meet with senior Israeli officials, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Stauber will also meet with Israel Defense Forces and tour important international security sites, like the Israeli-Syrian border, a news release said. Additionally, he will tour historical and cultural sites such as Yad Vashem, the Holocaust memorial.

For security reasons, additional details surrounding the congressman’s travel will not be released until his return home.

The trip is organized by the American Israel Education Foundation, an independent, nonprofit organization.

Earlier this year, Stauber visited Yuma, Ariz., to learn more about the immigration issue at the southern U.S. border with Mexico.
