A man attempting to evade officers was shot Thursday night after he rammed two Metro Police vehicles, Capt. Nichole Splinter said.

He was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he was expected to recover, Splinter said.

Police spotted a U-Haul pickup truck about 9 p.m. at a convenience store in the 3600 block of Paradise Road, just south of Twain Avenue, Splinter said. A couple of days earlier, officers had attempted to stop the same truck, but the driver fled, she said.

Police did not say why they initially tried to stop the truck.

In this case, the man backed into a cruiser as officers attempted to stop the truck, jumped a curb and crashed into a second Metro vehicle, Splinter said. An officer in the first cruiser got out and fired multiple shots, striking the man, police said.

The driver, however, continued to pull away, heading north on Paradise and crashing into two other vehicles at Karen Avenue, Splinter said. The driver, who got out and took off running, was taken into custody after a short chase, Splinter said.

This was the 12th Metro-involved shooting this year.
