A suspected car thief managed to elude Seattle police officers Thursday night, even with K-9s on the ground and a helicopter in the air searching for him.

Officers tried to arrest the suspect in the 8200 block of Aurora Avenue North just before 6 p.m. Thursday. The driver then caused at least one crash before running away on foot, police said in a statement.

After that, officers flooded the area to search for the suspect. The King County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, Guardian One, also responded to look from above. K-9 officers tracked the suspect on the ground.

“After an extensive and exhaustive search, officers determined the suspect had eluded capture,” police officials said in a statement.
