SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A Twitter battle has broken out between Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Senator Ted Cruz.

Cruz took the first swing when he tweeted that gun control doesn’t work. He backed his claim with a Breitbart News article that breaks down the number of shootings in Chicago over Labor Day weekend.

Cruz says disarming law-abiding citizens isn’t the answer, adding that stopping violent criminals before they commit more crimes is the most effective way to reduce murder rates.

Lightfoot logged into her Twitter account and responded by saying 60-percent of illegal firearms recovered in Chicago come from outside Illinois, mostly from states dominated by coward Republicans like Cruz who refuse to enact common sense gun legislation.

She ended by telling Cruz “Keep our name out of your mouth”.

More than 40 people were shot in Chicago over the Labor Day weekend, 8 of the victims died.
