Trouble in paradise? You’d better believe it.

Let’s steer the spotlight away for a moment…

How often do you watch Netflix? For many of us, much time is spent every week scrolling through a range of titles; it’s never easy to decide what to watch.

Most of the time, attention is on their selection of TV. It’s not exactly difficult to determine why – it’s the focus! The popular streaming service does a phenomenal job of topping up their output with new series and seasons, but too often, you’ll find sceptics moaning that their array of films isn’t quite up to the same standard.

It’s true, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t offering some quality cinema on the small screen. El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie was billed as an event, and although they don’t give out viewing figures, we imagine it broke some records. There are some other great efforts too, like The Other Side of the Wind, Okja and The Night Comes for Us. So, is Paradise Beach ready to join the gems or the duds?

Paradise Beach on Netflix

From director Xavier Durringer comes this 2019 French thriller which arrived on Netflix on Friday, November 8th 2019.

The narrative aims to immerse audiences in the lives of five friends who moved away from Paris long ago following the orchestration of a heist.

All living in Thailand, they have used the money to live life to the max, runnings bars, hotels and clubs, living a life of local stardom and luxury. However, there’s just one problem…

One man – Mehdi – was left behind and imprisoned for their collective crime. After serving fifteen years in prison and leaving their names out of it, he ventures out to Thailand to join his old friends and bask in the fortune he has helped them achieve. But, his share has been spent. Now it’s time for Mehdi to exact his revenge.

Where was Paradise Beach filmed?

As highlighted by The Cinemaholic, the entire film – apart from the opening with Mehdi – was shot in Phuket, Thailand.

This island in the Andaman Sea boasts some of Thailand’s most gorgeous beaches, which brings us to the location which likely led you here. The beach we see actually gives the film its name – Paradise Beach! Tourists have long flocked there for its white sand, clear waters and events; certain scenes appear to be shot right there at the Paradise Beach Club.

As the film suggests, Phuket is home to some of the most incredible restaurants, clubs spas and beyond, making a welcome appearance.

Paradise Beach is also rather close to Patong Beach, which the same source also notes is used as a location for Xavier’s film.

Paradise Beach (2019): What’s the verdict?

So far, audiences haven’t exactly been kind to Paradise Beach.

Over on IMDb, the film currently has an underwhelming audience score of 4.5; this is determined from 87 ratings. Now that it’s on Netflix, we’re sure many more will flock to the page and perhaps raise the rating significantly.

We hope you enjoyed it – if not, it’s dished out some great holiday ideas!
